HRI began as a collaboration between hydropower owner-operators who wanted to achieve more by working together. HRI gives members a place to solve problems together: pooling data, effort, and hard-won lessons so no one has to work in isolation.

Where to get involved

Opportunities to Collaborate

HRI offers many opportunities for its members to collaborate with leading industry researchers, HRI staff, external collaborators, and across member organizations.

  1. HRI manages projects so members don't have to. HRI's projects are driven by member priorities, and all participants share the benefit of a project's conclusions. With more input across the industry and less cost per member, collaborative projects are better and cheaper than those done in isolation. 

  2. HRI coordinates work with research organizations, pulling in members to provide detailed and broad industry input on researcher-driven projects.

  3. Through monthly, in-depth technical discussions, our Technical Collaboration Group (TCG) gives members a forum to exchange ideas, share updates, and connect with peers at other organizations.

  4. HRI’s annual conference brings members together to share their work, discuss pressing industry issues, and help set the organization’s priorities and goals.

  5. Innovation day, the second day in HRI's annual Collaboration Forum, offers members the opportunity to share, discuss, and engage on the most innovative work they are doing.

Digital Collaboration

HRI members have access to the HRI Member Portal and Discussion Board. These two shared digital spaces support ongoing collaboration between meetings and across time zones.
